Napoleon Total War is the latest title in the long running Total War series from Creative Assembly. Not straying far from their previous title, Empire Total War, The game is set in the late 1700s and early 1800s, following the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte the legendary French general.

Total War games are known for their large scale battles with thousands of units on the map at one time and Napoleon Total War is no different. Whether it be an infantry square deflecting wave after wave of calvary or infantry charging headlong into a row of british cannons, this game certainly brings the epic feel and scale one would expect. I myself am a huge Napoleon Bonaparte buff and have done large amounts of research on the time period and I have to say I was very impressed by the detail the devlopers put into the game. They created accurate layouts of the battlefields along with including specific units like the famed Old Guard and brief descriptions of Napoleon's Marshalls and other generals.

There are three different game modes you can play
Campaign (French or Coalition)- In this game mode you spend most of your time looking at a map managing economic and unit production while aslo participating in battles. I personally found this game type to be a bit boring and would rather play Civilization.
Napoleon's Battles- I found this to be my favorite out of the three. You play all of Napoleons major battles (land and sea) ranging from the Battle of the Pyramids to Waterloo. The only downside for some players is that you can not pick and choose from them at first. You have to play them in the order they took place but once you do beat them you can choose from them in any oder.
Multiplayer- You choose between land or sea battles and the matches are usaully pretty short, ranging anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes. Each player starts off with a set number of units. From there it does not take long before one player has his infantry charging across the field of battle while his calvary approaches on the flank. The online is fun but does not take long to get old.

Overall I love the game but I am a bit bias from being a Napoleon fanboy. It has good gameplay, nice graphic and can be a lot of fun but over all it just seems slighly lacking . It feels more like an expansion pack then a stand alone game. The price tag also reflects this because the standard edition goes for 39.99 instead of the regualr 49.99 that most PC games go for now days. If you enjoy this time period or any of the other Total War games and are looking for a fun but relitively short RTS pick this up.

Modern Warfare 2, do I need an introduction for it? I've seen tons of fanboy posts, and hater posts. Though, for me it's a very love hate thing.

Price: 59.99 (Yes, 10$ more than the normal PC title)
Pros: Simple (no complicated objectives), fast paced, noob friendly.
Cons: Unbalanced, No more servers, expensive DLC

Firstly, this game is proof Steam is taking over.

Ah, how I love you steam.

but seriously, who thought it would be a good idea to murder servers and only use direct connections? For PC gamers servers are like our digital homes. Jerks hang with the jerks, carebears hang with the carebears. It is a nice way to keep everyone, happy. I throughly enjoyed good Admins and good communities. Infinityward didn't.

Hey, this didn't stop me from playing! I was there at midnight foaming at the teeth. Now, for me, multiplayer is the only way to game. So I couldn't tell you jack about the single player elements other than people die. The graphics are supreme, the gameplay is smooth, and it comes free with steam!

Some sweet screenshots! (I like how all the ones online the guy is totally losing!)

Multiplayer on the other hand...

I was really dissapointed in the multiplayer. Honestly, the game feels like the staff sat at a big circle table and said "Hm, tubes are really not fun and unbalance the game what can we do to fix it? OH I know! We will just add in a ton of really cheap things to balance the unfun / fair tubes!" What a great idear infinityward. Now I know, sniper's actually use two automatic pistols, assault means run in like a ninja and knife the entire room, and campers are actually just guys who don't want to work with the team. They want their killstreaks so they can rain down on you with an AC130.

Since when was it a good idea to reward a player for kicking your ass so much that it isn't even fun?

Even lamer is care packages. It's like playing Mariokart, a guy gets a lucky lightning and zaps you as you jump a huge gap. Real cool.

The lack of servers didn't bother team LAN too much, due to the fact we are a lan group and "party play" was actually a pretty good idea. The only problem is, every and I mean EVERY time the host migrates and your playing 5 guys in the same room. One of you will drop. The good news for us though, is we usually host. Aparantly, hosts have a sweet latancy advantage!

The icon creation system is sweet. Except, what's up with all the 4/20 icons. Really? WOOH WOOH 420! I guess.

The game is fun, though my post clearly isn't saying it. One of the Team LAN members uninstalled it. Me, i'll play MW2 here and now, but not often. Sorry Call of Duty, you lost the spirit of PC gaming.

Heroes of Newerth, short named "HoN", is a digital only PC title that has yet to come out! The good news for us is you can play it for free while it hangs in open beta.

Price: 30$, (Free while in beta)

Pros: Team play (5v5), over 60 heroes, simple controles, fast paced, server based.

Cons: Not noob friendly, beta (slight unbalances),

Any Warcraft 3 fan is going to remember DoTA as one of the best custom games of all time. HoN is a literal remake of the classic DoTA, New skins, new heroes (with abilities you will totally remember) and a really impressive matchmaking system.

DoTA

Heroes of Newerth's Shiny new UI

So, why play HoN over the very famous and solid DoTA? It could be compared to playing Modern Warfare 2 over the first one. Essentially the same game but with new skins and some new flashy buttons. HoN's is just what I was looking for. Same game, new style.

So! Join me in the open beta!
